The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation raises funds to support and improve the care available to our patients.

The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation inspires philanthropy that enhances the health and well-being of Good Samaritan Hospital patients and those who care for them. Support comes from foundations, businesses, and individuals who value the positive impact our hospital has on the health of the Dayton community.

Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation was founded in 1973 when the Hospital leaders realized they needed a dedicated—and separate—nonprofit entity to manage charitable contributions. Today, the Foundation provides approximately $500,000 each year to programs, improving the health of our community. By Good Samaritans coming together with patients and families, amazing things have happened.

While the Foundation supports many programs, it also raises funds to support the greatest needs of the hospital. Gifts not designated toward a specific program are used to fund a variety of hospital needs as determined by the Foundation Board.

Richard Meyer, Board Chair, Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation

Richard Meyer is the president of Shell + Meyer Associates, Inc., a structural engineering consulting firm located in Dayton, Ohio.

Richard joined the board of Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation in 2012, and in addition to being Vice Chair and Chair, has served on several committees. Ensuring that the health care needs of the community are met is one of the main reasons he continues to stay involved with the Foundation, and he appreciates the excellence of the employees at Good Samaritan Hospital. He feels connected to the Samaritan Homeless Clinic, as he sees that organization as the ultimate reflection of what being a Good Samaritan is all about.

Faith plays an important role in Richard’s life, and he sees his own Catholic faith reflected in the mission and values of the hospital. It was the Sisters of Charity’s goal that love and compassion could be expressed through health care, and Richard feels that is exactly what is happening at Good Samaritan Hospital. It is that same expression of faith that calls Richard to be active in the community, and to serve others as best he can. Working with the other members of the board and Foundation staff to assess and fulfill patient and community needs is the thing he finds most rewarding, and he hopes to see the Foundation grow and adapt with the ever changing needs of the hospital and its patients.
